Biologics for Psoriasis
Biologics for psoriasis
Biologics are a new type of medicine. They are designed to target specific parts of the immune system, instead of impacting the whole immune system. The biologics used to treat psoriatic disease block the action of a specific type of immune cell called a T-cell. They block proteins in the immune system, such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), interleukin 17-A or interleukins 12 and 23. These cells and proteins all play a major role in developing psoriasis.
Biologics are indicated for moderate to severe plaque psoriasis. You may have experience in treatment with numerous methods before, including steroid, calciprotriol, methotrexate but do not have the expected results or cannot tolerate their side effects.
Biologics are taken by injection.
Can I take other medicines at the same time as with biologics?
Most medicines are safe to take with biologics. However, it is important to keep your doctor informed.
